If you have an older home then you may be tempted to take care of a lot of the jobs yourself. If you have a bit of experience then there is no doubt that you can do this, but with that said there are some jobs that you should not attempt at all. One of the jobs that you should not attempt to do yourself is removing a chimney. If you try and remove a chimney yourself then you may end up not being able to meet all the health and safety standards required. External Drain Clearance
There could be all kinds of blockages keeping your drains from working properly. It’s hard to diagnose the issue when you’re just attempting a DIY clearance though!
Pouring some boiling water into the pipe could prevent the bad smell that’s coming out of it from wafting through for a couple of days, but there’s a strong chance it’ll be back again!
So make sure you call out some professional drain cleaning services, to both work out what the issue is using specialized industrial equipment, and just in case there’s something down there that’s a bit too bulky for even hot water to wash away.
Demolition
Demolition is another job that you should not attempt to do yourself. It may be that you choose to take a wall down or that you try to take down an outbuilding.
Either way, you may think that it is as simple as taking a sledgehammer and taking it down, but this is not the case. You need to have a good amount of structural knowledge if you want to get this done properly.
It is also so important that you take the time to leave any plumbing or wires too. When you take down a wall, this may expose a lot of the wires and if you’re not careful then this can be a difficult job to deal with. If you see cracks in the wall then you may think that this makes your job easier, but in reality, it could be a sign of subsidence.
Building subsidence cracks are a big deal and it’s so important that you have someone reputable take a look at them for you, because if you don’t then you may find that you end up struggling to ensure that the result is as good as you hoped.
Dealing with Electrics
As a general rule, you should never attempt any DIY project unless it’s something simple, or unless you have the experience to do so.
Installing new lighting might seem easy but if you’re not careful, you may find that you end up not only compromising the light you are working with. You may also end up compromising the house electrics as well as the safety of you and your family.
This is the last thing you need, so it is very important that you take the time to assess this and that you get it fixed as soon as you can.
If you have done lighting before and you have the right safety equipment, you may be able to get away with putting new lights u, but avoid big jobs like installing new outlets or things like new wiring. Things like this have you working with the mains, which is the last thing you need when you’re not experienced.
