Having a home you are proud of is important. You spend many hours in your home, so you want it to be a place you can relax and decompress after a busy day out at work or socialising with your friends – talking of which, your home is also a place you may host people.
To make it a place you are proud of, there are various upgrades you can make, which can range a lot from small changes, such as decorating your walls, to larger changes, such as having a new bathroom installed.
The smaller changes are affordable and could be done quickly, whereas larger changes will have a cost attached to them and require you to put some savings into them. When you are making changes, you may come across issues which also need fixing, such as your HVAC system, if you have one.
Below, we have put together a short guide on upgrades you can make to your home to make it a nice place to be.
Consider making updates to your walls
The walls in your home affect the overall appearance of each room.
They can tell a story about your personality with styled wallpaper, or they can be designed with simplicity in mind, such as having white walls. If you haven’t had much done to your walls, this could be a place to start.
You could add pictures to them, as a reminder of key things you have done in your life.
Alternatively, you could add artwork to add colour and break up any big gaps – both are affordable and can be done fairly easily. Pinterest is a great place to look if you are after any inspiration.
Redesign any older rooms
A more expensive change but one that will instantly make a huge difference is to go down the route of redesigning any old rooms.
If the kitchen hasn’t been replaced, you could do this? Alternatively, you could replace your bathroom or any bedrooms that haven’t been touched for many years.
But honestly, a full rip-out isn’t always the only option, and it can be overkill if the layout works and the bones are still solid. Sometimes it’s more about fixing what’s already there, like refreshing worn surfaces, updating finishes, and making the room feel new again without the disruption.
For example, you could look into the leading commercial and residential resurfacing specialists to help out, you could DIY, such as putting vinyl tiles on your countertop and flooring, there’s honestly plenty of options where you save money and still upgrade.
This change will require you to invest heavily, so you may need to set a budget and start saving to have a redesign done.
Refresh your garden
When was the last time you spent some time on your garden? If you have one, refreshing your garden will give you a space you can relax in, host guests and it will increase the value of your home.
Plant some new trees, mow your lawn and consider having decking installed as this way you can host on it and enjoy a BBQ.
You may need to buy some new furniture as well as repaint your fencing – the winter months can cause a lot of discolouring.
What changes are you planning on making to your home and why?
Which of the above changes do you think will make the biggest difference?
