Creating Printables For Your Home

AD – This is a sponsored post

One thing I love doing for my home is creating my own printables. It’s an easy and cheap to do and can quickly help spruce up a room. It also gives me a chance to get creative. I love finding new quotes that go with the theme of the room I’m decorating and as a big book and movie buff, I like adding quotes from favourite films and literature around my home.

Creating Printables For Your Home

Even if you don’t have much design experience, making your own printables is very simple. You can buy svg files online which cover the graphics side of things and then you can simply choose, or even make up some words that suit your theme.

What Can I Put On My Printable? 5 Ideas

If you’re struggling to think of what to put on a printable here are some ideas.

1. Inspirational quotes

Inspirational quotes make lovely printables. You could have a quick google to see if there is anything you like or you could be more specific and choose something with a theme such as love or hope. Below are a few of my favourite quotes. These could be accompanied by simple graphics such as a heart or star.

2. Quotes about love

‘The best thing to hold onto in life is each other’ Audrey Hepburn

‘You may hold my hand for a while, but you’ll hold my heart forever’

‘Love Makes a Family’

3. Book & Movie Quotes

“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and above all, those who live without love.” Dumbledore – J.K Rowling

“Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” Galadriel – J.R.R Tolkien

4. Song Lyrics

If you have a favourite song you could print out a copy of the lyrics and add some flare with a few music notes around the outside and frame. This also makes a great gift, for example, if you know what song a couple are having for a first dance at their wedding

5. Bible Verses

If you’re religious then you may have particular bible quotes that resonate with you. Print these out and get inspiration from them every day.

Tips For Making Printables For Your Home

  • Keep the design simple. Black text on a white background can be very effective, especially if you use two or three complementary fonts.
  • Unsure of which fonts go together? Try using a font matcher.
  • Silhouettes or splashes of colour work well on printables as do shapes such as leaves, stars, arrows or hearts
  • Make sets of printables with a theme such as quotes from movies, musicals or books

Using SVG Files From Design Bundles

What are SVG Files?

SVG files (or scalable vector graphics) are used in graphic design. The benefit of using this type of file is that the quality of the graphic is not affected when you resize it, which makes them perfect for various design projects where you may want to change the size or scale of the image you are using. Unlike JPEG files, SVG files do not become pixelated when you increase their size.

When you buy svg files from design bundles they come with unlimited downloads, meaning you can use them over and over again and only pay once, and they already have very reasonable prices! While you’ll need to check the individual bundle, you’ll often get a range of files too so as well as the SVG file you’ll also get the PNG, DXF, EPS etc so you could use these for other projects if you would prefer.

Also, at design bundles they have lots of designs that come in a ‘done for you’ format so if you’re worried about your design skills these might be perfect for you. For example, the bundle pictured below, has loads of quotes that would be perfect for making items for your home from printables to coffee cups which are completely ready to go.

What Else Can I Do With SVG Files?

SVG files can be used for a multitude of projects including t-shirt printing and cermaics printing such as designing your mugs although you may need additional equipment for these unless you plan on drop shipping.

If you’ve enjoyed making printables you might have decided you’re ready for something a bit more challenging. T

here are lots of design projects you could try, including exploring the use of svg cuts for papercrafts. While you need a machine, such as a cricut to use these, you can make some amazing 3D paper crafts which are perfect for someone wanting to up their crafting game.

Perfect For Family and Friends

As you get more confident with making printables and other home items, you may want to try making them as gifts for friends and family.

You could personalize your designs by adding names and dates. These make a perfect budget gift as they are simple to make at home and you can pick up frames fairly cheaply, but it also looks like you’ve put lots of effort in making them something special.
