Are your sofa arms looking a bit grubby? Here’s how we got ours super clean with the Vax Spotwash Pro.

It’s not very often I’m influenced online, but I recently came across a TikTok of a lady using a Vax Spotwash to clean a very grubby armchair.

Our sofa has very mucky arms (thanks to several years of sticky toddler hands and me being renowned for how messy I am) and I have tried several things to try and get them clean but always felt like nothing worked.

I’ve not been happy with how they’ve looked for ages and to be honest, just tend to cover them up with throws.

While I love writing about my home and our DIY projects I think there is no shame in admitting that our home is never going to be Pinterest Perfect!

So after some discussion with Mr. Hawkes and some shopping around to get the best price I eventually purchased a Vax Spotwash from Argos.

Our thinking was that even if it didn’t do an amazing job on the sofa arms, there are plenty of other bits around the house that need a bit of a clean that it might do a decent job on too.

At £100 it’s not the cheapest spot cleaner out there, but not the most expensive either. It’s not clear on the Argos website that it comes with a bottle of cleaning fluid, so we purchased a bottle too.

And just to be fully transparent, we purchased this ourselves, it was not gifted and this post is not an ad.

However, I’ve read online that lots of people use washing detergent instead of the official cleaner and it works just as well.

Using the Vax Spotwash To Clean Our Sofa Arms

Before getting started using the Vax Spotwash, we soaked the sofa arms in Elbow Grease which is a cleaning solution which can be found in posts supermarkets and places like B&M and Home Bargains.

We left this to soak for around ten minutes before cleaning the sofa arms with Spotwash.

The spot wash was very easy to use and put together.

We used the whole bottle of cleaning solution provided (this is smaller than the bottles you can buy, I think it’s about a third of the size) which cleaned two sofa arms, the back (headrest area) of our sofa and one large footrest.

To clean the sofa arms, we used the brush attachment.

Honestly, we were amazed at the results.

We though the cleaning would be good, but we were surprised at just how good it was. It was nice to actually have purchased something that really did a job well, as you can see from the pictures below.

Although at this point it still needs another going over, the results from around five minutes of cleaning are really clear to see.

We went over it again and gave it a few hours to dry and you can see the results below.

Sofa Arm Cleaning With The Vax Spotwash Pro In 5 Easy Steps

1. First we soaked the sofa arms in Elbow Grease to help lift the ground in dirt and grease.

2. We set up the spot wash with warm water, clean solution and the brush attachment.

3. Next we got to work cleaning. The spot wash is easy to use, simply press the button and scrub and the machine does the rest.

4. Allow to dry for a few minutes and then repeat the steps above if needed.

5. Let your sofa arms fully dry before using the sofa again. And voila! Lovely clean sofa arms.

You may find once dry there is the odd spot that isn’t quite as clean as you would like. We found a quick clean a few days later and got rid of any stubborn marks that had been left behind.
