Ideas To Make Your Home Feel Festive For Free

Christmas can be a super expensive time but there are lots of things you can do to make your home feel festive without needing to spend any money at all. Here are my top free ideas to make your home feel festive.

Ideas To Make Your Home Feel Festive For Free

1. Go Foraging

The original pagan festival of Yule was all about bringing the outside into our home and is a tradition many of us still carry on today with our Christmas trees.

Local woodland can be full of things you can use to make your home feel more festive, including holly, mistletoe and pinecones.

These can be displayed around your home, turned into wreaths or used to adorn your fireplace. If you have craft materials and paints, colour and sparkle could also be added.

Even design fireplaces can be taken up a notch with these.

2. Turn Your T.V Into A Fireplace

Nothing feels more festive than the crackle and warmth of an open fireplace, but of course with modern heating systems, it’s not something many of us has anymore.

If you’re planning a cosy night in and won’t be watching your T.V then as long you have it connected to the WIFI you can turn into a crackling fire via Youtube. Perfect for when you’re putting up the tree or having friends over for some festive drinks.

You can find various examples using the links below. There are various options and run times but most last for several hours and there are ones that include Christmas music or a Christmas Scene.

3. Visit The North Pole Through Santa Cam

If your kids find the fireplace idea a little boring, something else you can do via youtube is watching Santa’s elves, Mrs Christmas and Santa himself via a network of ‘Santa Cams’.

These jump between watching Santa and the elves prepare for Christmas and outdoor scenes of snow and animals playing the occasional sleigh or train ride thrown in for good measure.

We started watching these with our three-year-old this week and she absolutely loved them! There are loads to choose from which can be good as they do get a little bit repetitive after a while.

4. Tune Into Heart Christmas

If you want to bring festive tunes into your home this festive season then Heart Christmas has you covered. You can listen on any DAB digital radio or find more ways to enjoy here.

5. Make Use Of Your Alexa Devices

If you have an Alexa device you can ask her to play Christmas songs, even if you don’t have an Amazon Prime or Amazon Music Subscription, there will just be an ad every few songs. The great thing about this though, is you can skip any songs you don’t like, unlike listening to the radio.

You can also ask Alexa how many days there are until Christmas and she’ll reply with a message from Father Christmas himself, which changes each day.

You can also ask her to tell you Christmas jokes. Our three-year-old is just starting to get the hang of joke-telling so she loves this feature!

These are some great ways to add festive magic to your home at Christmas time!
