While many of us like to get out in the sunshine, it’s also nice to have a cool home to retreat to when we’ve had enough of the heat.
Keep The Curtains Closed
While it’s lovely to let the sunshine fill our homes, it also causes rises in temperature.
On very hot days, keep all blinds and curtains shut, all day long if you can. This should help keep your home nice and cool.
Windows – Open or Shut?
There are lots of arguments as to the best course of action for windows when it’s very hot.
Some argue that opening windows lets the heat in. Conversely, some say it helps create a cooling breeze, especially if you open windows at opposite ends of the house.
One thing everyone can agree on though is that you should open your windows at night. This will help cool your house down and mean you start the day with a cooler house than if they’d been kept shut all night.

While it can be tempting to shut the doors to certain rooms to keep them cool, letting air circulate through your whole house is a much better idea and will keep your home much cooler.
