5 Tips For Hosting In The British Summer

Collaborative post

Ah the British weather…

While sometimes it can be glorious, we all know that it can also be unpredictable, and incredibly miserable at times. This means that summer hosting always presents a challenge. Planning a birthday, anniversary or other occasion isn’t the easiest when the forecast can change drastically from day to day!

But this shouldn’t stop you from hosting your summer celebration. As long as you’re prepared for anything, you’ll be sure to enjoy a successful event. Use these tips to help you host with ease in the British summer.

1. Always keep an eye on the forecast

In the UK, the one thing you can’t rely on is the weather. Which makes it very hard to choose a date to do anything!

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t plan ahead anyway. In the lead up to your event, keep an eye on the forecast to make sure you’re prepared for what’s to come. 2-3 days before should give you the best indication of how things are looking.

2. Weatherproof your garden

Lockdowns gave a lot of people the time and ideas they needed to transform their gardens into extended living spaces.

f you can, find ways to weatherproof your garden. From adding a sheltered area (or a pop-up gazebo in a pinch), to protecting your furniture, you can find ways to enjoy your outdoor space no matter the weather.

3. Have a back-up plan

A back-up plan is always a good idea, so if you have to move the festivities inside, then so be it. Make sure you’ve got suitable dining room furniture to cater for your guests should you need to bring them inside. You can still enjoy BBQ food and summer cocktails, but at least you won’t have to worry about getting wet.

4. Add some special touches

When the weather is right, summer parties can be a lot of fun. You could invest in a paddling pool for the really hot days, or some fun garden games to keep both young and old guests entertained. A fire pit is another worthwhile addition, helping you keep the party going long after the sun has gone down.

5. Sit back and enjoy it!

In the UK, we’ve had to learn to be laid back – and the weather is a big part of that! So no matter what the day brings, try not to stress about things and simply enjoy. Have fun hosting family and friends and create special memories.

You won’t be thinking about the weather when you reflect on what a good time you all had!

While summer hosting in the UK isn’t always the smoothest, you need to learn how to make the most of it. Sure, some sunny weather always helps, but it’s not the be all and end all. Spoil your guests and create the party atmosphere to enjoy successful hosting this summer.
