Does your garden need an update this summer? Here are five funky and fun garden update ideas to give you inspiration no matter the size of your outdoor space.
5 Funky and Fun Garden Update Ideas
Spring is the perfect time to think about sprucing up your garden. Some small tweaks here and there can have a huge difference in the overall feel of your outdoor space.
You could also focus attention on a particular area, adding lights or new plants for a simple refresh. Installing new patio doors could help expand your home into your garden giving a better feeling of space.
1. Creative Lighting
Solar lights are an extremely popular choice for the modern garden and come in many different varieties.
They add a lovely ambience and can be purchased in a range of colours and styles. They can be set to come on at a certain time and provide a cosy amount of light for those balmy summer evenings.
2. Try A Lick Of Paint
I recently wrote about how to give your garden a beach theme and painting fences white is one of the easiest ways to do this. Of course, you could choose to be a bit adventurous and pick different pastel shades or even attempt stripes.
While brown is a classic choice for sheds and decking mixing things up and choosing something a bit brighter could really mix things up. Beach huts can provide inspiration for a more colourful take – I love the rainbow one pictured below which could be especially poignant if you want to show your support for pride.

3. Barbeque Maintenance
Space for barbequing is essential for many people. Take your barbeque out early in the season for a good clean down and to check whether it needs more gas or whether you need to stock up on charcoal.
There’s nothing worse than inviting people over when we finally get some sun to find you need to spend the whole day sorting out the barbeque in a panic!
If you’re really into barbequing you could take things to the next level by creating a small outdoor kitchen area for storing your barbeque, hanging up your kitchen utensils and storing all manner of barbeque paraphernalia.
Outdoor kitchens aren’t just for barbeques either, they can also be an ideal space for smokers and pizza ovens.
4. Start to Grow Your Own
Growing your own doesn’t have to be complicated.
It can be as simple as a few herbs in a planter or you could dedicate an entire border to growing vegetables.
The simplest things to grow include tomatoes, green beans, lettuce and herbs such as rosemary and mint.
Growing your own fruit and vegetables could save you money in the long run too and there is nothing so lovely on a summer’s evening as sitting in your garden eating a meal from produce that you have grown yourself.
6. Garden Update Ideas: Paths and Paving
Using a pressure washer is a great way to give your paving slabs and patios a refresh. Keep the pressure washer on the fan setting at a 45-degree angle for the best results.
You could also update your patio with some decking. See my post Patio vs Decking to see which is option is best for you.
Whatever you choose to do to update your garden this summer, it will definitely be worth it when we finally get some warm weather to enjoy that outdoor space.

Paths, paving, etc important whether in garden, or elsewhere. As condition can impact on risk / s of slips / falls. Paths, paving, roads, pavements, streets, etc :- Really need to be clean and maintained (particularly repaired promptly, kept in good / safe order).
