As the evenings start to draw in, and the days become shorter you might be looking for some ways to make your home cosy for Autumn.
While Autumn is a favourite season for many, there are definitely things about Autumn that I don’t love. The evenings get dark earlier. A chill in the air is nice, freezing on the school run every morning, not so much.
And of course, this year there is the added worry for many of increased energy bills and whether or not they can afford to put their heating on.
One good thing about darker evenings though, is making your home all lovely and cosy for Autumn.
This post takes a look at a few simple and budget-friendly things you can do to make sure you’re coming home to a warm and snuggly home now that the weather is getting is colder.
How To Make Your Home Cosy For Autumn
Add Autumns Smells With Scented Candles
I love scented candles and I like to change them throughout the year depending on the season. Autumn is the perfect time to bring out some deeper scents such as cinnamon and apple or pumpkin spice.
Put Up Some String Lights
Sparkling fairy lights are super cosy and a great way to make any room feel pleasant. They can be picked up for as little as £3 and are usually battery-operated so there are no worries about the added cost on your electric bill.
Add Some Cosy Blankets
I’ve honestly lost count of the number of fleecy blankets and throws we have. As well as making the room look cosy, they are also practical for keeping nice and warm.
If you’re looking for a super budget option, head to Primark or Wilko’s where you can find a wide range of colours and textures which suit any decor.

Preparing Your Home For Autumn
Splurge On A Heated Throw
A slightly more expensive option that might save you money in the long run, you might want to invest in a heated throw. These throws work in a similar way to an electric blanket and while there is an initial cost of around £40 to consider, they are very cheap to run.
Snuggle up under one of these each evening as an alternative to heating your whole house.
I actually bought one of these to use when I’m working at home during the day and so far I’ve found it really effective.

Switch Your Throws And Cushions To Autumn Colours
One thing I love about Autumn is the colours. I love burnt orange and mustard. Switching your accessories to these colours can add a lovely Autumn feel to your home. Once bought, these can be brought out, again and again, each Autumn, a great way to refresh your main living space without actually needing to redecorate.
Decorate For Autumn
When it comes to decorating for Autumn, for me it’s all about bringing the outside in to create a cost atmosphere, and if you think about it, it isn’t really much different from what we do at Christmas time.
While pumpkins are synonymous with Halloween, smaller squashes are great for decorating and can last for several months without starting to go off, provided they aren’t cut or damaged.
You can also bring in pinecones and fallen leaves to finish the cosy Autumn look.
Combine this with candles, twinkling lights and some fleecy blankets and you have everything you need for a cosy Autumn home. Just add a good book and a Pumpkin Spice Latte for the ultimate Autumn evening at home.
