Modern Curb Appeal That Feels Stylish, Sustainable, and Lived In

It is simple to overlook how much your front pathway reveals about your home. The old, broken flowerpot, the yard light that projects an overly bright white light, and the small patch of dead grass that has been holding on for years due to having held on all those previous years are just some examples of what we can call “the overall impression” of a residence before you ever walk in.

So this is why modern curb appeal works best when it is not seen as mere superficial decoration. Houses that appear to be modern and cohesive typically have something far more understated happening. These homes simply “feel” cleaner and more thoughtful.

Sustainable Materials Last Longer

Softening the glare of outdoor lighting makes a huge difference. Plantings work within the limits of the climate in which you live. And when chosen well, solar elements add to that clean and deliberate appearance rather than fight against it.

A large front lawn may appear to be the safest option; particularly if you want to maintain some semblance of order. However, in reality, a larger front lawn demands much more water, many more hours of trimming, and much more tolerance than homeowners anticipate. When the inevitable drought hits, the entire entryway begins to look worn out.

In contrast, a more contemporary strategy for landscaping is almost always less complicated. Consider reducing the size of your lawn and replacing it with either gravel, hardy plants, or structural planting beds using repetition.

Grasses, shrubs, and perhaps one or two strong planters can greatly enhance the calmness and intentional appearance of the front of your home. Additionally, by simplifying your landscape, you reduce the amount of time spent on maintenance. This, while somewhat underappreciated, is a significant factor.

Bright, Harsh Lighting Destroys Your Evening Ambiance

While you may have a beautiful home exterior during the daytime, you could be losing virtually every advantage at night due to overly bright, harsh lighting. Brightly lit overhead security lights positioned above garages tend to diminish everything else. Walls become cold, and improperly placed details become highlighted.

You can achieve so much without putting forth too much work when it comes to excellent exterior lighting by providing direction toward your house while at the same time softening the outline of your home. Warm path lights that softly illuminate trees or walls adjacent to the entrance of your home will help soften the outline of your home.

A single wall light can also help accomplish this task. Solar-powered lights are an option in some cases. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution, solar lights have been helpful in places like walkways and planting beds.

There is, however, a difference in quality among solar-powered lights. Cheaply made solar-powered lights are often available but will fail very quickly. High-quality solar-powered lights quietly run in the background.

Eco-Friendly Elements Must Have An Intentional Appearance

Typically, individuals consider eco-friendly improvements as mere add-ons. Rain barrels are hidden away in an odd location.

Solar panels are added with no consideration for their relationship to the roof line. While functional, the aesthetic suffers.

Smart homes show that smart changes may be easily made to functional aspects of the building.

With panel installations blended with the natural contour of your roof, attractive permeable pavers instead of makeshift sections, and plant selections tailored to your local environment, you are able to create a modern-looking, sustainable home without overdoing it.

Eco-friendly design will be viewed as being part of the overall design of the home when it looks natural and “lived in” versus like something was thrown together at random.

Small Overlooked Details Will Bring Down The Entire Home

Modern style tends to allow very little room for clutter. If trash cans are visible from the street, house numbers are faded, and a mailbox leans ever so slightly to one side, people will notice them-even if unconsciously.

This is often where curb appeal evolves most rapidly. Simply straighten the edges. Replace outdated hardware. Clean or paint what currently exists prior to purchasing additional products. A house doesn’t require additional features to look great-it requires fewer distractions.
