What are the health benefits of decluttering? This post takes a closer look at how decluttering your home can positively impact your health.
There are many reasons to declutter you home, including getting rid of things you no longer need, creating more space or even preparing your house to put on the market.
But decluttering can also have a positive impact on your health too. Here are some of the health benefits of decluttering.
The Health Benefits of Decluttering
1.Better Sleep
Having a tidy, clutter free room could be one of the keys to getting a good nights sleep. Less stuff means more air can circulate and it makes your room easier to clean so less irritation from things like dust.
This post has five reasons mess and clutter can affect your sleep.
2. Better Mental Health
There are definitely mental health benefits to having a good declutter. Having a tidy and clutter free home can help reduce stress level and if you do have a period where you struggle with your mental health day to day, having an already clutter free environment can make keeping on top of things easier.
3. Make It Easier To Clean Your Home
Once you’ve decluttered your home, you instantly make the process of cleaning it easier. This can then mean there is less likely to be a build up of dust. It can also improve air circulation.
Not having to work around lots of ‘stuff’ can also help motivate you to do deep cleaning jobs such as using a rug doctor to deep clean carpets.
Easier cleaning can also mean you’ll find and tackle things like mould more quickly. A clean kitchen means there is less chance of pests.

4. Less Allergy Triggers
Less clutter should equal a cleaner home. Having a cleaner home could improve certain health conditions such as asthma and dust allergies.
I found that following the Team Tomm method has helped me keep on top of this.
5. Create A Calm and Relaxing Environment
I find it hard to relax when there is lots of clutter and mess around me. I take steps to regularly declutter areas of my home where there can be a build-up of stuff such as our dining room table and my daughter’s toy box.
There tidier my home is there more motivated I am to keep on top of the clutter too, as are other family members.
6. Less Stress
Once you’ve got on top of the clutter in your home, you may find it helps alleviate the symptoms of stress.
Having fewer clothes to choose from can make your morning routine quicker. A tidy bedroom can aid sleep.
Unexpected guests are less stressful when your home is clutter-free – there is no need to panic.
