Digital decluttering is a relatively new concept, but it’s one that we should all be taking notice of.
Decluttering your digital photos can have many benefits, including freeing up much-needed storage space on your phone.
In this post, we take a look at the best way to declutter your digital photos.
As someone who recently released they had close to ten thousand photographs on their phone, I feel as though I am very familiar with the world of digital decluttering right now.
When it comes to getting rid of digital clutter, especially photos, it can be hard to let go.
I am slowly going through several years’ worth of photographs on my phone, and deleting baby pictures of my beautiful daughter can feel heart-wrenching.
But, I have concluded that I cannot keep them all.
Especially when there are hundreds of photographs from one day out, blurry pictures, pictures where I can’t even see her face!
Here are some ways you can declutter your digital photos and hopefully free up some space on your phone simultaneously.
1. Start With Something Easy – Screenshots
For me, deleting screenshots was the easiest place to start and most phones automatically put these in their own album so they should be easy to find.
Many of my screenshots were things I no longer needed such as attraction tickets, memes, or funny tweets I’d sent to people who don’t have Twitter so deleting them was easy.
2. Quick Scan Through
Next, I used the select function to delete images that could go just from a quick glance.
Anything blurry, black or fuzzy. Random dinners from three years ago.
Selecting several pictures at once and then bulk deleting get things gone fast.
3. Use The Merge Function
I use an iPhone and there is a merge function that merges duplicated images with a quick click.
I found it didn’t catch all the duplicate pictures, I think possibly because some taken in quick succession are minimally different.
However, this was an easy way to get rid of almost one hundred photos in one quick hit.
You can also download an app that spots duplicates for you.
4. Use The Date Method
Finally, you might need to start going through images one by one to see what can be deleted.
This can be very time-consuming but it will be worth it in the long run.
One method you could use is to search for photos with today’s dates and delete any you want to get rid of. And then repeat each day until all days are done.
Accidentally Deleted A Photo – Don’t Panic!
If you’ve deleted something by mistake, don’t panic.
Most phones will automatically save deleted images to a deleted folder where they will remain for around thirty days before being permanently deleted.
