Finally, after five years of blogging and four years of working from home, I have my own office area. Come take a look at my new home office space!
This weekend we took a trip to Ikea to get the final things we needed for our utility room makeover and pick up a desk and chair for my home office which is going into a corner of our dining room. I’m so excited to finally have a dedicated workspace after all this time.
It’s been one of those niggley jobs we’ve been meaning to do for absolutely ages but never got round to as something else always ended up taking priority.
Shopping My New Home Office Space At Ikea
So first up was our trip to Ikea. It’s not somewhere we go often as both our nearest ones are close to an hour away. I also do try to avoid buying homeware for the sake of it and the temptation to redo every room in the house is always strong at Ikea!
We really enjoyed taking time to look around and get the bits we needed both for my home office space and for the utility room.
Here’s what we bought:

Rug (this was for our living room!) £50
Shelves x 2 £5 Each
Lamps x 2 (also for the living room) £60
Bulldog clips x 2 £2.50 (these are to hang photography backgrounds in the utility room)
In all honesty, we did really well at getting things we went for and the only thing we forgot to get was a runner for the utility room and one for the hallway too.
Our biggest impulse buy was the rug for our living room but we’d been thinking about replacing our old one for ages and this seemed like a bargain at £50 when most we’d been looking at were £100 plus.
My New Home Office Space
The desk and chair were both fairly easy to put together and it didn’t take Pete long at all.
We put it together in the living room and you can see the new rug we bought here too!
We were quite limited on which desk we could buy as the space was just under 100cm and there were only a couple that would fit and even then Ikea was sold out of some of them too.
That said, I’m quite happy with one, I don’t need a huge amount of desk space, the shelves fit my notebooks perfectly and it was a bargain at £45. While I do often advocate for buying second-hand furniture, the size requirements made finding something suitable tricky which is why I opted for new on this occasion.

While it’s not perfect and the walls need a little bit of touching up, I’m really happy with how this space has turned out. The dresser that was previously here has been moved into the utility room where I’m using it to house all of my blogging gear and the top of it will be used for photography.
Now I know my home isn’t what some might deem ‘Insta Perfect’ but I really want to write about home interiors that look normal and not like a show home. Homes are there to look and be lived in and with a toddler, nothing in my house is going to stay perfect for long anyway!
The utility room is almost finished but we need to do some work on the roof before I can share any pictures.
